Darkwood... A suitable name for a dreary town.

My family and I just moved here, so at the time this is being written, I am just trying to get used to the change of scenery. I don't know why we had to move, but it was horrible timing. You see, earlier this year, Great Uncle Richard died. My cousins got his money, his friends got his share in the stock market and what did we get? His crappy house in a place infested with trees. I mean, this town is just a clearing in the middle of a forest!

Before we moved, I tried to Google some information about Darkwood. There was only one result, though. It had something to do with a creepypasta, but apart from that, nothing interesting. Why would I believe in them? They're just urban legends made up by guys with a horrific imagination. Plus, the usernames are so random.

And on the day we moved into our new home, a boy my age introduced himself as Toby. He told me a few things about Darkwood, and there wasn't a lot to say. What he said before he left was unusual and creepy: 'Many saw it and they're dead. Just hope you don't see it...' What the hell was going on?

What did I do? I looked for Toby and asked him what he meant.

'Well, there's been something strange happening. There used to be a lot of other kids here, but for 30 years, there have been children who see something in the dark part of the woods. I don't know what it is, but whatever it is, it drives the kid insane. After a few days, they either die from illness or they go missing. Last kid who disappeared was Samuel. Went on a dare and just...never came back.'

I lay in bed that night, wide awake. I thought I remembered the name, like it was at the tip of my tongue. It was there, but I just couldn't say it. The next morning I woke with a start. I remembered it.

Slenderman.
