I always enjoyed playing RPG games, but only the ones with a story like Diablo 2. After seeing how WOW (World of Warcraft) got popular these days, I decided to give it a try, even if I never enjoyed MMO's that much. I was like: A game that popular, can't be bad.
Well, the game itself was great, even without a story. The only problem I ever had was performance. My laptop is 6 years old, and isn't made for games like WOW.
I decided to look for some kind of way to speed it up. Overclocking wasn't an option, because my shitty laptop was on the verge of blowing up. At the same time, I was also looking for some cheats. Since I was a beginner, and had no valuable strategy, I thought that cheats may help me catch up to regular players.
Knowing that search engines won't help me much, I decided to look even deeper, and so I was searching it wherever I could find the word: WOW. It was one pretty sick obsession. Anyways, I found some site talking about WOW.
One guy commented about some cheats, and added a link to download some hacking software. Usually, I stay away from anything connected with hacking and cheats, but since I was "crazy" at that time, my curiosity got the better of me.
The download went smoothly, and everything was fine until I opened it. It was a rar archive, so I had to extract it to desktop and open it. At first there was nothing. Nothing came up. I thought that it was a virus, and that my data might be stolen. About 5 minutes later, a dialogue window came up, and I was asked:
"You will find a meaning in your madness. Are you ready to proceed?"
Of course, there was "yes" and "no" available for me to choose. I was scared at the moment so I clicked "no" Instead of quitting out of it, my laptop burst with screams. Since I listened music before, my stereo output was set to 75%. The scream itself was just a little bit human-like, but now when I try to remember it, it was unlike anything I've ever heard.
Just when the scream finished, a fast moving slideshow of images came up. The images themselves were of people. Their expressions were the same. Some were looking in the distance, some were feeding the dogs, some were shopping... but in all pictures, you can see their face clearly. Absolutely no happiness or sadness at all. Just completely blank. The slideshow lasted for about a minute. After it finished, the image of some man appeared.
That was one of the worst moments in my life. Every wicked act, every torture, every murder had run through my mind. I started shaking uncontrollably, and I thought that my heart was going burst. The fear and terror were overwhelming. Somehow I managed to calm myself down, and close that picture for good.
I found the rar archive I downloaded, with pictures from slideshow, and that motherfucking scream, right next to it. There wasn't much to think about here, I deleted everything, and emptied my recycle bin.
Right now, I can't just wish for the memories to play themselves in my mind, but every now and then, that face resurfaces in my mind, and drives me crazy for a few seconds. Thankfully I've learned my lesson, and I strongly decided to never download any hacking shit from now on. I managed to get the download link from my browser history, so if you want to see it for yourself, go ahead, but be DAMN careful:
